Abstract
After studying 12 users' behaviors of using a microwave oven through Contextual Inquiry Method, we figured out that the oily hands of users always interrupted the cooking process and also caused safety issues. We proposed and implemented the idea of enabling a microwave oven door to follow a user's hand. After comparing with previous ordinary microwave door, our touch free door does improve the usability of a microwave oven and create a sense of magic.
